The Static

Julian Croft, a meticulous audio archivist haunted by the recent death of his wife, acquires a rare, vintage shortwave radio—the “Marconi Echo-VI”—seeking a distraction in the hiss and crackle of forgotten broadcasts. Instead, on a supposedly dead frequency, he discovers a signal that shouldn’t exist: a persistent, layered static that seems intelligent, watchful. His obsession with the signal deepens as he begins to hear impossible things within the noise—fragments of conversations, echoes of the past, and, most terrifyingly, the voice of his late wife. But the Static is not a ghost. It’s a parasitic signal of unknown origin that begins to bleed from the headphones into his reality, rewriting his perception of the world through sound. As Julian races to uncover the radio’s dark history, he realizes he isn’t just listening to the Static; it’s listening to him, tuning his mind to its own alien frequency, preparing him to become its new broadcaster.
