Inquisitor Vaelen is dispatched to the Black Bastion, a remote fortress guarding a seemingly bottomless pit, after the garrison ceases all communication. He arrives to find the fortress bathed in a perpetual storm of grey ash and the knights transformed into angelic monstrosities. Vaelen must descend into the abyss to confront the fortress commander and the ancient, bleeding cosmic entity they have begun to worship, ultimately facing a horrific choice between his own humanity and the survival of the world.
